HISTOLOGY AND EMBRYOLOGY (Turkish-Master's Thesis)

LEVEL: Master's Degree, TYYÇ: Level 7, EQF-LLL: Level 7, QF-EHEA: Second Cycle

2019

Aim

  • Our aim in the Histology-Embryology Master's programme is to train scientists who have theoretical and laboratory knowledge and skills at the Master's level in the field of Histology and Embryology by informing students in detail about Cell and Basic Human Tissues, Histology of Organs and Systems, General Embryology, Embryology of Organs and Systems. To train researchers and academicians who can apply these technologies to scientific research by teaching histological tissue preparation techniques, light and electron microscopy, cell culture, immunohistochemistry and assisted reproduction techniques. During this education, molecular methods such as In situ Hybridisation, Western blotting, and qRT-PCR are also taught and it is aimed to train graduates who can conduct research at molecular level. In addition, it is aimed to train graduates who can create projects in the field of histology and embryology, carry out experiments and tissue preparation processes, and gain the ability to transform project results into articles.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Students who graduate from this programme will be eligible to apply for a doctorate in the relevant education centres in order to obtain the necessary ‘embryologist’ certificate in order to work as ‘Embryology Laboratory Supervisor’. Graduates who have completed their Master's and Doctorate in this field will have met the prerequisite to participate in the ‘Assisted Reproductive Treatment Methods Training’ of the Ministry of Health, General Directorate of Mother and Child Health and Family Planning. With the knowledge gained in this programme, graduates will be able to work in research laboratories where cell culture and stem cell studies are carried out, Regenerative and Restorative Medicine and Tissue Engineering research areas. Embryologists play an important role in assisted reproductive technologies by keeping egg and sperm cells and embryos alive in vitro (outside the body, under laboratory conditions). The master's programme offered will enable graduates to be trained and gain skills in this field. Within the scope of the programme, professors and lecturers from Altınbaş Faculty of Medicine as well as leading professors from outside the institution will give lectures on the latest developments in the field. Within the framework of the programme, basic information about the pathobiology and morphology of genetic diseases will be given within the scope of the basic pathology introduction courses in the programme.
