PHARMACY PROGRAMME (English)

School of Pharmacy was established in 2012; accepted its first students in 2012-2013 and gave its first graduates in June 2017.

Aim

  • To ensure the maintenance and development of qualified education and training programs that enable the training of successful pharmacists in all areas of the pharmacy profession
  • To train pharmacists who can serve all stages of development of a pharmaceutical product, are patient-oriented, entrepreneur, leader, strong communicator and lifelong learner
  • To encourage the active participation of students at all levels in research studies
  • To develop international collaborations in pharmacy education
  • To increase industrial collaborations and to increase the support of our external stakeholders to research and education
  • To contribute society with social responsibility projects
Objective

  • To carry out educational activities with a curriculum compatible with the Pharmacy Core Education Program (CEP), and to carry out the necessary development and improvement studies by taking into account the CEP and accreditation standards
  • To develop practices that increase student participation in theoretical and laboratory courses and course contents that support their personal skills
  • To encourage project applications in which students can actively participate, especially student projects
  • To increase the number of international connections for student and staff exchange mobilities as well as short and long-term internship practices
  • To ensure active support for research and education processes by increasing industrial participation among our external stakeholders
  • To hold regular meetings with student clubs to ensure that students take part in social responsibility projects

Specific Admission Requirements

The admission of the student to the higher education is done under the regulations of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the results of exams. Foreign students are placed in Altınbaş University Undergraduate Program on the basis of the High School Diplomas and International Admission Examination Regulations of the countries. To be eligible for enrollment, applicants must submit proof of English proficiency in the application or proof that the program they complete in their country or that at least 30% of the courses are in English. After completing the English preparatory program, those who are not enough in English start teaching at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Scholarships: In addition to the scholarships of the central exam of OSYM, students enrolled in their regular programs and who have obtained a GPA greater than 3.50 out of 4.00 will be entitled an honor scholarship with the condition that they are registered to a full load. Students on OSYM Scholarship fulfilling the same conditions are entitled to this scholarship with similar percentages. Assessment for this scholarship is done at the beginning of each academic year. Students need not apply for the scholarship. The directorate of Health, Culture and Sports informs the students who are entitled to the scholarship. Students who have obtained national or international degrees in arts and/or sports competitions and who are selected to represent the university in art and/or sports organizations are entitled to a scholarship whose amount is decided on by the Board of Trustees. In addition to the scholarships mentioned above, Altınbaş University provides its students with various other scholarships and supports.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The recognition of the prior learning is made at the national level in accordance with the framework regulations of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the relevant regulations of the Altınbaş University. Transfers from other universities or other departments are made within the quotas determined by the relevant board of directors as a percentage of the student quota provided in the ÖSYM Guide for each announced year.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate students have to finish all of the course in the curriculum and depending on their enterance years they have to take minimum 310 ECTS, and have to have GPA 2.00 / 4.00, and must not have any “F” in their final transcripts.

Profile of the Programme

The main objective of our programme is to train pharmacists who will defend the honor of the profession in all conditions, carrying the responsibility of health service, closely following scientific and technological developments in the field, capable of responding to the needs of the health sector and of adapting themselves rapidly to changing conditions. The programme educates pharmacists with the competence in the fields like Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy. The training period is 6 years including 5 years of education + 1 year preparation in English (if the student can’t pass proficiency exam).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates can work in Community Pharmacies, Hospitals, Pharmaceutical industry and related public institutions.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates can apply directly to PhD programmes as well as graduate programs in many releated areas . In addition to these, graduate pharmacists can take Specialization in Pharmacy by entering the Specialization Exam in Pharmacy.

Graduation Requirements

Minimum Credits for Graduation: 310, Required Courses: 66, Elective Courses: 10 (8 Elective Courses and 2 Elective Advanced Pharmacy Practices). Students must take elective courses on total of 27 ECTS.

Facilities

There are 32 Faculty members in School of Pharmacy. There are 6 student laboratories, 5 research laboratories and 2 computer laboratories where education and research studies are carried out in the school. There is also a large library with study rooms where students can work alone or in groups and cafeteria. Because of Bakırköy’s being in a central location, students can easily find housing to stay. They can also stay in the Guest House of the University in Mahmutbey very close to Mahmutbey Campus.
