Founded in 2012, the Department of Political Science and Public Administration has started its education and research activities in 2013 at the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Currently, there are 6 full-time faculty members (1 professor, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, and 1 research assistant) in the department. Academic language of the program is English.
Students who complete this program successfully are granted Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration.
This program is at Bachelor’s level (Level 6).
Social and Behavioural Science
Enrollment of students in programs at Bachelor’s and vocational degree levels in Turkey is done according to the results of centrally organized exam in Turkey according to the Higher Education Act. Center for Student Selection and Placement (OSYM) places students into programs they are willing to study according to their scores in the central placement exam and high school scores.
Recognition of prior learning is subject to the framework by regulations at national level set by Council of Higher Education and to the related procedures of Altınbaş University. Transfer of students among programs within the university is done according to quotas determined by the executive councils of the relevant schools. Quotas are determined by the relevant executive councils as a percentage of the total quotas specified in OSYM Guide every year. Transfer quotas among programs within the university are announced at the university web page before a certain period of time from the application deadline together with minimum scores and other requirements.
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the program (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS). Students with a cumulative grade point average and a semester grade point average below 2.00 are in unsatisfactory status. Students in unsatisfactory status who are in their second or higher semesters with a cumulative grade point average below 1.80 can only repeat courses until they have a cumulative grade point average of at least 1.80. Students who successfully complete this program earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the School of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Altınbaş University aims to educate innovative and entrepreneurial graduates who possess the necessary knowledge and communication skills to make a difference in their fields. Students at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration take a wide range of elective courses throughout their education as well as participate in conferences and seminars, where they find the opportunity to meet the leading academics and professionals in their field and learn from their experiences. The program consists of compulsory, and elective courses. Compulsory courses include courses in the fields of Political Science and Public Administration, International Relations, Economics, Law, Sociology, Math, English and History. Department elective courses include courses offered by the International Relations, Economics, Sociology and Psychology to the Faculty. The first two years of the program consists of main compulsory courses in political science and management. Besides these compulsory courses students have the opportunity to take elective courses in the fields they are interested during the third and fourth years. Throughout the four-year program, students also become familiar with a wide range of research methodologies from statistical methods to comparative-historical analysis.
The graduates of this program work as political science and public administration experts in the public and the private sectors. The graduates of this program are equipped with fundamental and technical knowledge and communication skills, foreign language abilities, and teamwork skills that are necessary to work in these sectors. The graduates of the program can find employment at the government, including the Ministries of the Turkish Republic, as well as local administration, international institutions, think-tanks, civil society organizations, academia and the private sector.

Students should complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits with a grade point average of minimum 2.00 over 4.00. Students with a minimum cumulative grade point average and a minimum semester grade point average of 2.0 are considered in satisfactory status. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00-3.49 are in honor student status and those with 3.50-4.00 are in high honor status.

The department benefits from the university's classroom, lecture hall, library and computer lab facilities. The department offers opportunities for minor and major programs. Honor students at Istanbul Altınbaş University may register in double major programs. The student who attends to double major programs receives a second diploma in addition to her major field. Successful students may register in minor programs. Any student who attends to a minor program may receive a certificate in a second field besides her main field. Students also have the opportunity to spend up to a year at one of the many European universities via the Erasmus+ program of the department. There are various student clubs at the university that contribute to the socializing of the students and promoting their senses of sharing and solidarity. Club activities and membership are open to all the students. Students can freely establish new clubs in accordance with their hobbies or interests. The students of the department have the opportunity to participate in academic activities organized throughout the academic year, national and international conferences and workshops, and social social responsibility projects.
