INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND FINANCE PROGRAMME (English)

The Department of International Trade was founded in May 2011 as part of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Istanbul Altınbaş University. It continues as the Department of International Trade and Finance within the Faculty of Business Administration, which was established in 2017.

Aim

  • The main objectives of the International Trade and Finance Program are to provide students with the basic knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to operate competitively in the global business world. This program aims to enable students to understand the theoretical and practical aspects of international trade, comprehend the functioning of global financial markets and develop international business, trade and financing strategies.
Objective

  • The goals of the International Trade and Finance Program aim to enable students to perform effectively and competently in the international business world. This program offers students the opportunity to understand the complexities of international trade, use international financing instruments effectively, and develop an in-depth understanding of global economic and trade issues. It also aims to turn students into globally responsible business professionals by providing them with the skills to manage cultural differences, work with ethical values, and consider sustainability and environmental factors. With this program, it is aimed for students to make successful careers in international trade and finance and to respond to the demands of global markets.

Students who complete this program successfully are granted Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade and Finance.

Specific Admission Requirements

Enrollment of students in programs at Bachelor’s and vocational degree levels in Turkey is done according to the results of a centrally organized exam according to the Higher Education Act (YÖK). Center for Student Selection and Placement (OSYM) places students into programs according to their scores in the central placement exam and high school scores. Foreign national candidates can enroll in the program if they meet the conditions stipulated in accordance with the "Istanbul Altınbaş University Undergraduate Application and Admission Directive for International Students".

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Recognition of prior learning is subject to the framework bylaws at national level set by Council of Higher Education and to the related bylaws of Istanbul Altınbaş University. Transfer of students among programs within the university is done according to quotas determined by the executive councils of the relavant schools. Quotas are determined by the relevant executive councils as a percentage of the total quotas specified in OSYM Guide every year. Transfer quotas among programs within the university along with the minimum scores and other transfer requirements are announced on the university web page before the application deadline. In order for application for transfer withing the university among programs of different central placement exam score types the score of the applicant in the central placement exam for the exam score type of the program to be applied should not be lower than the score of the student who is placed countrywide in a program of the same type with lowest score. Students who complete vocational school programs and the Open University programs may apply for transfer horizontally to Bachelor’s programs. Students who are graduates of or who are in the final year of their study at vocational schools at Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and graduates of schools abroad whose equivalency is accepted in Turkey may apply for transfer horizontally to bachelor’s programs.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to successfully complete the designated program of courses (240 ACTS) with at least grade of D and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00. Undergraduate students whose overall GPA and semester GPA are at least 2.00 are considered successful. Among these students, those with a GPA of 3.00-3.49 at the end of a semester are considered semester honor students, and those with a GPA between 3.50-4.00 are considered semester high honor students.

Students have the opportunity to develop business strategies in international markets, specialize in risk management, financial analysis, and international business management. The program also focuses on developing abilities to understand and manage cultural diversity, conduct business with ethical values, and consider sustainability and environmental factors. Graduates have the potential to make successful careers in international trade and finance by being equipped with the ability to lead in the global business world, strategic thinking ability and effective communication skills. The employment profiles of graduates of the Department of International Trade and Finance are quite wide and they have employment opportunities in various sectors. Graduates may have the opportunity to find employment in the following fields:

Export and Import: Graduates can undertake tasks in international trade companies, foreign trade departments or logistics companies to manage export and import transactions, follow customs procedures and provide access to international markets.

International Finance: They can work in international banks, financial advisory firms or investment companies in positions related to international finance, foreign exchange transactions, risk management and capital markets.

Finance Departments of Companies: Graduates can be employed as financial analysts, budget specialists or finance managers in the finance departments of large and small-scale companies.

Trade and Business Development: International trade and finance graduates can work in exploring new markets, business development and evaluating international business opportunities.

Consulting: In finance and trade consulting firms, they can advise clients on international business strategy development, market research and trade policies.

Government and Public Institutions: Graduates can be employed in the public sector with tasks such as formulating foreign trade policies, managing international economic relations or monitoring trade agreements.

Entrepreneurship: Graduates can start their own business and manage their own international business or financial consultancy firms or trading companies.

Facilities

Students who complete 6th semester can apply for the CO-OP program. CO-OP (Cooperative Education) program is a model combining education with business practice through the cooperation between university and business world. The objective of the CO-OP program is to combine the knowledge gathered at the university with practice from the business world and develop graduates on both theoretical as well as practical levels.
