Altınbaş University was established by Mehmet Altinbas Education and Culture Foundation in 2008 and accepted its first students in the academic year 2011-2012. Faculty of Dentistry accepted its first student in the academic year of 2016-2017. The Faculty of Dentistry has 390 majoring students, and about 30% of them is international. Faculty’s mode of study is full-time. Language of education is English 30 % and Turkish 70 %. Altınbaş University, Faculty of Dentistry follows the guidelines of worldwide associations for dental education and implements new technologic developments rapidly into its education system. With its dynamic, innovative and research-oriented faculty, Altınbaş University, Faculty of Dentistry aims to educate the brilliant young generation of the new century to become self-confident, open-minded, and technologically capable dentists of the information age. The education period is 5 years. Altınbaş University, Faculty of Dentistry is a member of Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE). Our school’s curriculum is based on the definition of competencies recognized by ADEE. The curriculum includes theoretical and practical courses including medical and dental sciences, ethics and professionalism, behavioral sciences, research methodology and biostatistics. The health campus is 40.000 square meter and Faculty of Dentistry shares the campus with Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy. Dentistry Faculty offers a qualified and high technology environmentally friendly infrastructure, small group lectures, student-oriented approach, international patient safety guidelines, chance to communicate with international students and multicultural environment. The Dental Hospital of the University is the only and first dental hospital that has ISO 9001-2015. High qualified academicians (11 professors, 2 associate professors and 22 assistant professors) help our students maintain their dental competencies by teaching them to learn and making sure that they adopt the lifelong learning as a core principal. During the preclinical education, every student has a chance to have , 1 phantom head and 1 microscope. Preclinical education is given in phantom and preclinic laboratories equipped with recent high technology. Both Mahmutbey and Bakırköy campuses houses a modern library that supports the scientific and intellectual activities with the latest technology by providing information and documentation services at international standards and via contemporary and universal resources. Professional library staff, are available for consultation and to answer subject and library-related enquiries. Altınbaş University Faculty of Dentistry’s curriculum is compatible with the guidelines of worldwide associations for dental education and the Faculty aims to be the one of the leading dental faculties in Turkey. Altınbaş University Faculty of Dentistry aims to achieve excellence in education, research and patient care and will raise dentists who will shape the future of dentistry and make contribution to general health of the community.

Specific Admission Requirements

The Faculty of Dentistry accepts students who are successful at the centralized national university placement examination arranged by the OSYM (Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Centre) and who meet legal and academic requirements determined by the Turkish Higher Education Council. Foreign students are accepted according to the criteria specified by the Turkish Higher Education Council.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The prerequisites about the recognition of previous education (formal) as well as horizontal, vertical and within the same university transitions are conducted within the content of “The regulations on the principles of transition between associate degree and license programs” which was approved by the Administrative Committee of Altınbaş University in accordance with the “The regulations of the undergraduate education” of the Turkish Higher Education Council. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage of Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Hence, any license program of Altınbaş University is not an exception to this. In order to start having education at the Faculty of Dentistry, students have to take an exam of profiency at English Language. The students who achieve a passing grade from the exam are accepted to the Faculty of Dentistry.

The students who complete 300 ECTS credits and receive a minimum average score of 2.00 out of 4.00 are eligible to graduate from the program. The students who receive average score of 3.00-3.49 at the end of the semester with a minimum course load are awarded as honor student of the semester and who receive a minimum average score of 3.50-4.00 are awarded as high honor student of the semester.

Profile of the Programme

Faculty of Dentistry aims to be innovative and quality focused institution in every branch of dentistry. Academic staff is comprised of young and dynamic faculty members who interact with the students directly (there is 1 faculty member for every 2 students). Accreditation and academic studies are done in an effort to become as one of the pioneer dental faculties both nationwide and worldwide. Our object is educate students as dentists who make differences in dental sciences, adopt life-long education philosophy and update themselves in accordance, practice with evidence-based knowledge in their way of diagnosing and treating their patients, have ethical and social responsibility values and who are innovative and solution based, as well. Diversity of the students and the collaborative atmosphere in our faculty provides an ideal learning environment. Our faculty shares the same campus as with the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy, which enhances interdisciplinary collaborations. The students may involve in research projects and study with the faculty members. Also, starting from the second semester of third year, our students make contribution to patient care services in our environment friendly clinics that are equipped with the latest technology.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Our graduates may work at a private clinic, at government hospitals. Also, they may apply for the “Dental Residency Examination” which is arranged by OSYM (Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Centre) in a centralized nationwide manner or may apply for the post-graduate programs offered by the Health Sciences Institution’s of universities.

Access to Further Studies

The students who are eligible to graduate from the Faculty of Dentistry may continue for further education in different ways. They may apply for the “Dental Residency Examination” arranged by OSYM to become a specialist of one of the dental branches of their own choice or may apply for the post-graduate programs offered by Health Sciences Institutions for an academic career. Each institution determines application criteria of their post-graduate program individually.

Facilities

Faculty members of Faculty of Dentistry consists of 11 professors, 2 associated professors and 22 assistant professors who are all experts in their field of specialties. Pre-clinical education is given in the phantom and simulation laboratories that are equipped with the latest technology. The clinics and the pre-clinic laboratories are conducive to give one phantom model, microscope each student. There are 4 lecture halls of 120 people, 9 classes of 65 people for the theoretical courses, small study groups and presentations. There are libraries in both Mahmutbey Campus and Bakırköy Campus with a wide range of accessibility to hard copy and electronic data. Altınbaş University, Faculty of Dentistry, with its curriculum parallel to international education systems, aims to become one of the pioneer faculties in dentistry in Turkey. Faculty of Dentistry resides in Altınbaş University, Bakırkoy Health Campus, where, our program with its large pre-clinic, clinic and research opportunities is conducted in. Faculty hospital, in which patient care services are given, is the first and the only dental hospital awarded with ISO-9001-2015.
